No Friends at Daycare

My daughter doesn’t seem to have made any friends at her daycare. How can I find out if there are any behaviours that are affecting her socially?

Discuss your concerns with your daughter’s daycare supervisor. Ask him or her  if s/he observes any social behaviour that makes it difficult for your child in the classroom. If this is the case, is your child specifically initiating the behaviour or is it the dynamics of the whole group ? If it involves the everyone, there are many social literacy programs that can be implemented with the group to focus on co-operation and social behaviour. However, if the behaviour is specifically associated with your child, and the supervisor feels it is affecting her socially, emotionally or academically, they should forward their concerns to the director of the daycare and the rest of the team (administration, other supervisors, special education staff member if there is one, etc…). Based on the teacher’s observations, your child will be closely monitored and hopefully they’ll be able to advise you whether or not academic and/or psychological testing is necessary.
